CARBONDALE, Ill. -– Katie Kesti shot an opening-round score of 83 to lead the Omaha women's golf team on the first day of play at the Saluki Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois on Sunday.
As a team, the Mavericks are in seventh place after the first day of play at Hickory Ridge Golf Course with a team score of 345. SIU Edwardsville leads the tournament with a score of 318, while host Southern Illinois (325) is in second. Southern Illinois “B” also comes in third in the standings at 333, followed by Fort Wayne (340) in fourth, Rend Lake CC (342) in fifth and Central Michigan (344) in sixth. Omaha sits ahead of Eastern Illinois (347), Tennessee State (356), Cardinal Stritch (370) and John A. Logan CC (376).
Kesti's round of 83 leaves her tied for 15th in the field of more than 60 golfers.
Sophie Peters is two strokes back at 85, which ties for 22nd.
Makenna Kroeker is third for the Mavericks and in a tie for 35th with a score of 88, while Alexa Ruwe fired an opening round of 89 and is 41st overall.
Megan Vetrovsky rounds out the scoring for the Mavericks with a score of 90.
The second round of the Saluki Invitational begins Monday, March 30 at 9 a.m. in Carbondale, Ill.
