ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Omaha women's golf team finished in a three-way tie for ninth place at the Pizza Hut Thunderbird Invitational at Southern Utah on Friday afternoon.
The Mavericks shot a team round of 314, their third-best 18-hole score of the season, to finish with a two-day total of 634, tying them with Weber State and Montana State. South Dakota State won the event with a score of 609, just one stroke ahead of Oral Roberts in second at 610. Grand Canyon took third with a score of 611.
Megan Vetrovsky and
Sophie Peters each carded team-low scores of 76 in the final round. Vetrovsky finished first for the Mavericks in scoring and in a tie for 18th overall with a 36-hole total of 155. That put her three strokes ahead of Peters and
Katie Kesti who finished at 158. Kesti carded a round of 78 on Friday, and both she and Peters finished in a tie for 29th in the field of 87 golfers.
Makenna Kroeker was fourth for the Mavs and in a tie for 53rd overall with a score of 163 that included a final round score of 84.
Alexa Ruwe completed the scoring for the Mavericks with a round of 86 on Friday that left her with a score of 180, good for 84th overall.
The Mavericks are back in action at the Morehead State Invitational at Ocala, Fla. on Sunday and Monday, March 22 and 23.
