ST. GEORGE, Utah – Makenna Kroeker and Megan Vetrovsky shot matching rounds of 79 to lead the Omaha women's golf team on the first day of play at the Pizza Hut Thunderbird Invitational at Southern Utah.

The Mavericks are in 10th place with an 18-hole team score of 320.  Georgetown leads with a score of 299, eight strokes ahead of second-place Grand Canyon.  Oral Roberts is in third at 309.

Kroeker's first round at the Sunbrook Golf Course is her second-best of the season.  She and Vetrovsky are tied for 25th in the field of 87 golfers.

Katie Kesti is third for UNO and tied for 36th overall with a first round score of 80.  That put her two strokes ahead of teammate Sophie Peters who shot 82 on Thursday and is currently in a tie for 54th.

Alexa Ruwe posted a score of 94 in round one and is in a tie for 82nd.

The final round begins on Friday at 9:30 a.m. CT.
