LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Omaha women's golf team finished 19th at the GCU Invitational on Wednesday, its first event of the spring season.
The Mavericks finished with a 54-hole team score of 970. California Riverside finished a wire-to-wire win with a score of 895. Host Grand Canyon was second at 903, and Northern Arizona took third at 910.
Sophie Peters led the Mavericks in scoring, the second time she's done so this season. She carded a score of 76 in the final round for a total of 227 to finish in a tie for 15th overall. The score marked her lowest 54-hole total this year.
Katie Kesti was second for the Mavericks and tied for 71st overall with a three-day total of 240 that included a score of 80 on Wednesday.
Megan Vetrovsky posted a score of 252, good for a tie for 97th in the huge field of 120 golfers. She shot a score of 87 on Wednesday. Vetrovsky finished one stroke ahead of teammate
Makenna Kroeker who shot 253 for the tournament including a final round of 88. She finished in a tie for 99th.
Alexa Ruwe finished the scoring for the Mavericks with a final round of 87 for three-round total of 267.
The Mavericks will remain in Arizona, heading north for the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28 – March 1 in Sedona. The tournament is being moved up one day due to the threat of inclement weather.
