A back-and-forth start saw a 16-16 tie eight minutes into the game. After four straight points from Jakeenan Gant, a jumper by sophomore forward Tre'Shawn Thurman got the Mavericks within two again. Omaha was then held scoreless for the next five minutes while the Tigers put together a 12-0 run, but a Smallwood jumper at 5:14 finally broke through the Mavericks' drought. UNO continued to chip away at Missouri's lead, using two pairs of free throws from White and senior guard Kyler Erickson to shear it to 37-30 by the end of the half. In the first stanza, the Tigers, who committed 13 turnovers, shot 50 percent while holding the Mavericks to a dismal 33 percent.
In the second half, UNO was tagged with 10 turnovers, which resulted in 16 Tiger points. White, however, kept Omaha in it with 14 second-half points, shooting 5-of-6. He also had six boards, helping the Mavericks outrebound Mizzou 22-13 over the last 20 minutes, including 8-1 on the offensive end.
A 7-0 Omaha run made it a five-point game at 59-54, sealed with a baseline jumper from Thurman, but Puryear halted it with a bucket at 8:21. With 5:04 remaining, Hollins started a two-minute, 6-2 scoring stretch for the Mavericks, accounting for all six points that cut it to 72-64. Though UNO reduced it to a six-point margin at 75-69 on a White jumper with 1:14 left, Missouri staved off the Mavericks with at least a seven-point lead for the remainder of the game. A Patterson 3-pointer with three seconds left was Omaha's last tally of the game, bringing the final score to 85-78.
