Mavs Stumble at Oral Roberts, 74-53

TULSA, Okla. – The Omaha women's basketball team fell at Oral Roberts, 74-53, on Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Center.  The Mavericks dropped to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the Summit League.  Oral Roberts improved to 10-10 and 4-3 in the league.

Brianna Bogard had a team-high 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor.  Bogard added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the afternoon.

Lanese Bough added 10 points and seven rebounds.  Bough was 5-of-9 from the floor.  Vanessa Barajas, Madi Robson, and Mikaela Shaw each had six points for the Mavs.  Barajas had an assist, a steal, and a blocked shot.  Robson dished out a team-high five assists, while Shaw grabbed a team-high eight boards and blocked one shot.

Oral Roberts had three players in double-digit points led by Vicky McIntyre's 18 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Dorottya Balla added 14 points and three boards, while Atoe' Jackson chipped in 13 points.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Robson cut the lead in half (4-2) with a layup.  After that ORU went on a 15-6 run to take a 19-8 lead at the 12:05 mark.  Bough capped off a 12-4 Maverick run to cut the lead to 23-20 with 7:59 left in the half.  ORU outscored UNO 18-6 to end the first half.  The Mavs shot 41.4 percent (12-of-29) from the field in the half and committed eight turnovers as Oral Roberts built a 41-26 halftime lead.

In the second half, UNO cut the lead to nine points, 46-37, at the 15:00 mark off a Bogard 3-pointer.  ORU regrouped and extended their lead to 21 points, 62-41, with 9:20 remaining in the game.

Omaha made one last push with a 10-2 run capped off by a Shaw jumper to get within 64-51 with 5:41 left to play.  That was as close as UNO could close the gap in the game.  The Golden Eagles outscored the Mavs 10-2 down the stretch to make the final 74-53.

The Mavs shot 39.7 percent (23-of-58) for the game and just 2-of-10 from 3-point range.  UNO was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.  ORU hit 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field and 30 percent (3-of-10) from long distance.  The Golden Eagles went 17-of-20 (85 percent) from the charity stripe.

Omaha will play two games in Indiana next week.  The Mavs visit Fort Wayne on Thursday, Jan. 29.  Tipoff from the Gates Center is set for 6:00 p.m. (CT).  Omaha wraps up the road trip on Saturday, Jan. 31 at IUPUI.  Tipoff from The Jungle in Indianapolis is set for 2:00 p.m. (CT).
