OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team picked up a 66-49 win over IUPUI at Sapp Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks are now 6-11 overall and 1-4 in the Summit League. The loss dropped the Jaguars to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Remy Davenport had a team-high 13 points and six rebounds to lead three Omaha players in double figures. Davenport has scored 10 or more points in six of the past eight games.
Madi Robson went 8-of-8 at the free throw line and scored a season high 12 points. Lanese Bough added 11 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and four assists.
IUPUI was led by Mikale Rogers who had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor. Jenna Gunn added six points and five boards, while Kelsi Byrd chipped in five points and three assists.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first 10 minutes, but the Mavs took an early 12-6 lead on a Robson layup with 11:28 left in the first half. UNO extended its lead to 10 points (22-12) with 8:05 remaining in the first half on a pair of Bough jumpers.
Following a media timeout, IUPUI went on a 15-4 run to take a 27-26 lead on a Rogers' jumper with 3:06 left in the half.
The Jaguars extended the lead to three points (31-28) on a Shanika Maddox lay-up with 53 seconds left in the half. A pair of Bobbi Beckwith free throws cut the IUPUI lead to one point (31-30) at the half.
Omaha went on a 15-6 run over the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 45-37 lead. The Mavs extended the lead to 15 points (57-42) on a Kelly layup with 6:50 left in the game.
IUPUI would not go away quietly. Rogers keyed a 7-0 run with a jumper and a made free throw to pull the Jaguars within eight points (57-49) with 4:28 left. Davenport, Kelly, and Robson combined to make 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to seal the Maverick win, 66-49.
The Mavericks shot 22-of-54 (40.7 percent) from the floor and shot 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from deep. IUPUI finished 18-of-54 (33.3 percent) from the field and 3-of-9 (33.3 percent) from long distance.
The Mavs had 12 steals while forcing the Jaguars into 20 total turnovers. UNO held a 38-34 rebounding advantage over IUPUI.
