OMAHA, Neb. – Vance Rookwood had two goals, helping the Omaha men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Belmont on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field.

The win improved the Mavericks to 2-2-0 on the season while Belmont fell to 0-4-0.

"The 2nd game of a weekend is always a tough challenge physically and mentally," said Omaha head coach Jason Mims.  "I thought our guys played a very mature, experienced match.  After last weekend's two gut-wrenching results, I was extremely proud of the guys to battle back and earn two wins."

Rookwood opened the scoring when he tipped home a pass from Xavier Gomez in the box in the 27th minute.  Jesus Perez also picked up an assist.

Belmont tied the game when Joao Fonseca fired in a feed off a cross from Raphael Colmanette in the 32nd minute.

But Rookwood got loose a little more than three minutes later and scored on a shot to the left corner in the 36th minute.

The Mavericks added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Emir Alihodzic knocked home a corner kick by Mark Moulton for his first goal of the year.

Joseph Ghitis picked up his first career win with one save as the Mavericks outshot the Bruins 12-3 and 6-2 in shots on goal.  UNO also had a 14-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Mavericks will be on the road for the next three games beginning Saturday, Sept. 13 at Kansas City.
