Maverick Kickoff Opens 2014-15 One Fund Campaign

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha Athletic Department celebrated its third annual Maverick Kickoff event Wednesday evening at the Scott Conference Center, welcoming over 200 attendees to open the 2014-15 One Fund campaign and a new athletic season. The One Fund was created four years ago as the athletic department's annual fundraising campaign and has provided more than $1 million in support for UNO student-athletes.

Mike and Shelley Homa were introduced as co-chairs for this year's campaign, and they challenged the athletic department to set a goal of $350,000 raised in 2014-15.  Other speakers included Director of Athletics Trev Alberts, head women's basketball coach Brittany Lange and head men's soccer coach Jason Mims.

Gifts to The One Fund are received through one annual campaign. Rather than making several contributions throughout the year to specific booster clubs or the athletic department, donors are asked to make one annual gift. That gift can be directed to the sport or program of the donor's choice, or contributions can simply be given to the athletic department's general fund. Unrestricted and sport-specific gifts made to the annual fund provide the opportunity to meet immediate funding needs that include expenses associated with student-athlete scholarships and development, facilities, travel, equipment and other team-related costs. Annual fund gifts provide a valuable foundation of support that ensure continued academic and athletic excellence.

In addition to providing necessary support to the more than 250 student-athletes who represent the Omaha Mavericks, donors to The One Fund will also receive top seating priority in the new UNO/Community Arena, set to open in Fall 2015.
