Mavericks Square Off Against 'Roos

The Omaha men's soccer team travels to Kansas City, Mo. this weekend to take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City on Saturday, Sept. 13.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium on the UMKC campus.

The Teams

Omaha (2-2, 0-0 Summit League) is coming off a perfect 2-0 weekend with a pair of 3-1 wins over Cincinnati and Belmont.  On Friday's victory, Mark Moulton had a goal and two assists to lead Omaha to a 3-1 win over Cincinnati at Caniglia Field.  Felipe da Silva and Nick Miller each had goals in the win.  Logan Mendez added two assists.  Josh Christiansen made two saves and earned his first win of the season.  Omaha made it a perfect homestand by defeating Belmont 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.  Vance Rookwood had two goals and Emir Alihodzic had one.  Joseph Ghitis made one save and picked up his first career win.  Vance Rookwood leads UNO with three goals on the season.  Mark Moulton has a team high seven points with a goal and five assists.  Josh Christensen and Joseph Ghitis each have one win on the season.  The Summit League named Moulton the conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Nick Miller was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Kansas City (1-1-1, 0-0 WAC) are coming off a 2-1 come from behind win on Wednesday, Sept. 10 over SIU-Edwardsville.  The 'Roos gave up a goal in the opening ten minutes of the match, before equalizing in the 36th minute on a goal by Jordan Rideout.  Didrik Rinde scored the gamewinner in the 53rd minute for the 'Roos.  Kansas City was outshot 11-8 on the night.  Jordan Rideout leads Kansas City with two goals.  Chris McGaughey has played every minute in goal for Kansas City and has a 1.24 goals against average.

UNO and Kansas City will meet for the first time this weekend. 

Last Time Out

OMAHA, Neb. – Vance Rookwood had two goals, helping the Omaha men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Belmont on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field.

Rookwood opened the scoring when he tipped home a pass from Xavier Gomez in the box in the 27th minute.  Jesus Perez also picked up an assist.  Belmont tied the game when Joao Fonseca fired in a feed off a cross from Raphael Colmanette in the 32nd minute.  Rookwood got loose a little more than three minutes later and scored on a shot to the left corner in the 36th minute.  The Mavericks added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Emir Alihodzic knocked home a corner kick by Mark Moulton for his first goal of the year.

Joseph Ghitis picked up his first career win with one save as the Mavericks outshot the Bruins 12-3 and 6-2 in shots on goal.  UNO also had a 14-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Omaha returns to action on Friday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. facing 24th rated Cal State-Northridge in Fullerton, Calif.  The Mavericks then take on Cal State-Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif., on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 3 p.m.
