Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's basketball improved to a perfect 5-0 at home on Sunday afternoon, defeating UT Pan American 77-72 at Ralston Arena. With the win, the Mavericks are now 6-5 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while the Broncs drop to 5-7 (0-0 WAC).

Marcus Tyus led the Mavericks with a season-high 20 points and a career-high nine rebounds. The Ramsey, Minn., native shot 8-of-13 for the day, including 3-of-4 from long range, and added two assists and two steals.

Devin Patterson had 17 points on a 6-of-10 shooting effort, as well as five boards, three assists and four steals. Freshman forward
Tre'Shawn Thurman chipped in 14 points and six rebounds, and senior forward
Mike Rostampour finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
As a team, Omaha shot .458 (27-of-59) from the field to UTPA's .438 (28-of-64).
UT Pan American was paced by a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds from Shaquille Hines, who shot 12-of-20 for the day. Hines added five assists, a block and a steal as well. Shaquille Boga also finished in double figures with 18 points, and Janari Joesaar had 11 points and eight rebounds to his credit.
Tyus led the Mavericks in the first 20 minutes, accounting for 15 points and six rebounds. Omaha quickly went up 7-2 to start the game, but UTPA battled back to make it 9-9 by the first media timeout. The first half saw six lead changes, but the Mavs tied it at 28-28 with a Tyus three at 6:00. That began a 10-2 run that was capped with another triple from Patterson, putting UNO up 35-30 with 3:05 to go. The Mavericks outscored the Broncs 16-7 in the final six minutes, taking a 41-35 advantage by halftime.
UNO scored eight straight points to kick off the second half, going up by 14 at 49-35 with the help of a Patterson trey. The Broncs whittled it down to a six-point margin at 55-49, but a Tyus three and a Thurman dunk put UNO back up by 13 at 64-51 with 8:12 left.
An 11-0 UTPA run tied the game at 69-all with 3:24 to go, and the Broncs stalled it again at 70-70 on a free throw by Everett Osborne. Omaha then came back as Tyus came up with a steal and a fastbreak layup at 1:18, and a Carter three with 36 seconds left extended the lead to 75-70. Two Carter free throws then pushed the margin to seven, and Omaha went on to take the win, 77-72.
Omaha returns to action on Monday, Dec. 29, traveling to Chicago State. Tipoff is set for 7:05 p.m. in Chicago, Ill., and Gary Sharp will have the call of the game on 1180 Zone 2. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.
