Bluejays top Mavericks, 67-50

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha women's basketball team visited Creighton University on Saturday afternoon, falling 67-50 at D.J. Sokol Arena.  Omaha moved to 5-6 with the loss, while Creighton improved to 6-5 overall.

Remy Davenport led the Mavericks with 15 points off the bench.  Davenport was 5-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc.  Mikaela Shaw and Bobbi Beckwith each had eight points, while Lanese Bough added seven rebounds and five assists.  Shaw had a team-high eight boards.  Taijhe Kelly chipped in four points, five rebounds, and blocked one shot.

Creighton's Sydney Lamberty had a game-high 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field. 

UNO jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of action.  Kelly hit a tough jumper in the paint to open up the Mavs scoring, then Brianna Bogard sank a free-throw after being fouled on a made lay-up.

Moments later, Remy Davenport drained a 3-pointer to give the Mavs an eight point lead at 13-5 lead with 15:37 remaining in the first half.

Following a pair of Bogard free-throws, Creighton went on a 7-2 run to tie the score at 17-17 with 10:46 remaining in the period.  Omaha, however, reclaimed the lead on Davenport's second 3-pointer of the half, 20-17.

Creighton took its first lead of the game at the 5:15 mark of the first half on a jumper by Lamberty.  The Bluejays stretched the lead to as many as five points before the end of the half, but Davenport's third 3-pointer cut Creighton's lead to 30-28 at the break.

The Bluejays came out hot to start the second half as they scored the first 11 points of the half to stretch the lead to 41-28 with 16:23 left to play.  Omaha cut the lead to ten points, 43-33 (15:38), on a pair of Bogard free-throws and another trey from Davenport.

Creighton pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 27 points at 67-40 with 3:26 remaining in the second half. 

The Mavs closed the game on a 10-0 run as Davenport added her fifth 3-pointer of the day, while Beckwith hit a pair of baskets, and Sami Pawlak chipped in a bucket and free throw.

Omaha returns to action on Monday, Dec. 29 against Utah Valley State.  Tip-off in Orem, Utah is set for 4 p.m. (CT).
