Air Force Edges Mavericks, 65-57

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Omaha women's basketball team fell 65-57 to Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Monday evening.

The Mavericks drop to 1-1 overall, while Air Force improves to 1-1 on the season.

Mikaela Shaw had a career high 17 rebounds to go with nine points in 31 minutes of action.  Brianna Bogard and Sami Pawlak each had 11 points to lead Omaha.  Pawlak was 5-of-6 from the floor, including a three-pointer.  She also pulled down six rebounds.  Remy Davenport chipped in eight points.  Lanese Bough was held scoreless, but dished out a game high six assists and grabbed six boards.

Air Force had three players in double digit points.  Missy Byrd had a double-double with a game high 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Jimi Blagowsky added 13 points and eight rebounds.  Lindsey Lewis chipped in 12 points.

The game got off to a slow start offensively, as Air Force held a 7-4 lead at the 16:06 mark of the first half.  Victoria Trowbridge gave Omaha a 17-16 lead with 7:51 left in the half, but the Falcons went on a 16-10 run to take a 32-27 halftime lead.

Omaha cut into the lead in the opening minutes of the second half.  Brianna Bogard sank a pair of free throws to get Omaha within three points, 34-31, with 16:46 left in the game.  Air Force stretched its lead to 12 points at the 13:29 mark following a missed shot by Omaha.  The Mavericks would cut the lead to 54-49 with 2:49 remaining in the game on a Remy Davenport three-pointer.  Air Force made 7-of-10 free throws in the final minute to hold off the Omaha come back.

Omaha shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57), while Air Force shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the floor.  UNO held a 47-41 advantage on the boards and blocked five shots.  The Mavs battled foul trouble throughout the game.  Brianna Bogard fouled out in 24 minutes on the court, while Lanese Bough and Taijhe Kelly each picked up four fouls.  Three other Mavs had three fouls.

The Mavericks return to the Sapp Fieldhouse on Friday, Nov. 21 to host Graceland University.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.  Jon Green will have the live radio call on 1620 The Zone, while live streaming will be available for a fee at Omavs.com.
