Box Score Omaha, Neb. – The Omaha men's soccer team pushed its winning streak to three-straight games with a 2-0 non-conference win over Drake University on Tuesday evening in front of a crowd of 1,008 fans.
Senior forward Vance Rookwood and sophomore midfielder Xavier Gomez found the back of the net just 2:34 apart in the second half, while the defense held Drake to only six shots in the contest to help Omaha improve to 7-4-2 overall. Drake drops to 3-10-3 on the season.
Mavericks' redshirt junior goalkeeper Josh Christensen stopped all three shots he faced on the evening for his fourth clean sheet of the season. Drake goalkeeper Darrin MacLeod made six saves in the loss.
Rookwood opened the scoring with a blast from the top of the 18-yard box and into the net for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Gomez scored his first goal of the season just 51 seconds after entering the game to double the score for the Mavericks.
Omaha finished the game with a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 6-3 margin in corner kicks. Logan Mendez led all players with four shots, while Mark Moulton added three shots. Mendez and Rookwood each had assists.
“We had a great mature performance tonight,” commented head coach Jason Mims. “After an emotional win on Saturday night, we always worry about the next game. I am super proud of our team's performance tonight.”
Omaha travels to Fort Wayne on Saturday, November 1 for a Summit League matchup at 6:00 PM (CST).
