Mavs Finish Road Slate at Eastern Illinois

The Omaha men's soccer team will play its final road game of the 2013 season at Summit League foe Eastern Illinois on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in Charleston, Ill. Live stats will be available at OMavs.com. The Mavericks have only played five road games so far this season and have a 1-4 record in those contests. However, they lost two road games in overtime and one with 16 seconds left in regulation. On the flip side, Eastern Illinois has played a total of 15 games, but only four have been at home (1-2-1).

The Teams
Omaha (3-9-1, 1-3-0 Summit League) is coming off a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Oral Roberts in the Mavs' Caniglia Field opener last Saturday. Chava Garcia and Vance Rookwood lead the Mavs with six points, while Mark Moulton's second goal of the season last weekend has given him five points. Garcia has one goal and four assists, while Rookwood has a team-best three goals. The Mavs' defense continues to be strong, as they rank third in conference play with a 1.24 goals against average.

Eastern Illinois (1-12-2, 1-3-1 Summit League) notched its only win of the season on Oct. 20 against Oral Roberts, 2-1 in double overtime. The Panthers have lost three straight, including a 5-1 loss at Wisconsin on Wednesday. Garet Christianson missed five games to injury and one to suspension but still leads the Panthers with a Summit-best six goals and three assists for 15 points. Jake Brillhart has 13 points on four goals and five assists. EIU ranks second in the league with 20 goals scored but is last in the league with 45 goals allowed.

Series History
The Mavericks lead the all-time series with the Panthers, 1-0. UNO won the only meeting last year in Omaha on Oct. 6, 4-1. Craig Buettner, Felipe da Silva and Vance Rookwood all found the scoring column, while Logan Mendez, Jesus Perez and Chava Garcia each had assists.

OMAHA, Neb. - Oral Roberts got a goal from Wayne Farmer with nine seconds left in regulation for a 2-1 win over the Omaha men's soccer team in the debut of the new Caniglia Field last Saturday. Oral Roberts got on the board first in the 25th minute. Johnny Chavez played a ball into the box, and Javier Reyes laid it off for Edgardo Mira, who calmly buried it in the net for the 1-0 lead at the 24:17 mark. The Mavs finished the first half with an 11-2 shot advantage but trailed 1-0. The school-record 1,804 fans in attendance didn't have to wait long after halftime for the Mavericks to even the game. Logan Mendez played in a corner kick to the far side, where Nick Miller volleyed it back across the box to Moulton, who headed the ball past Sandoval for the Mavs' first goal on their new field. The goal came just 1:30 into the second half. But with the match nearing the end of regulation, Farmer one-touched home a centering pass with nine seconds left to stun the Mavs.

The Mavs finish the season with two home games, starting on Nov. 9 against Fort Wayne at 4 p.m. It marks the final Summit League game for the Mavs. UNO finishes the season on Nov. 16 against Incarnate Word.
