BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The UNO men's basketball team faced Cal State Bakersfield in a rematch on Saturday, falling 84-63 to the Roadrunners at the Icardo Center. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 11-17 on the year, while CSUB improves to 16-14 and takes the two-game series with UNO this season.
Junior forward
Alex Welhouse and freshman guard
CJ Carter each posted 16 points for the night to lead UNO. Welhouse shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and added a team-leading seven rebounds, while Carter also had three assists, two boards and a block. In addition, sophomore center
John Karhoff finished in double figures with 10 points and a perfect 6-for-6 effort at the free throw line, in addition to six rebounds and three assists.
Senior guard
Mitch Albers chipped in eight points with a pair of threes, as well as two boards and an assist. CSUB is the only team to hold Albers out of double-figure scoring this season, as he had previously hit double digits in 37 straight contests dating back to 2010-11.
CSU Bakersfield was topped by 23 points from Stephon Carter, who also grabbed six rebounds. Donald Johnson added 21 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal, and Zach Lamb contributed 17 points, seven boards, three helpers, a steal and a block of his own. Rashad Savage pulled down eight rebounds and put up a trio of blocked shots.
As a team, the Roadrunners shot 48 percent to UNO's 36 percent from the field and had 24 assists to just eight turnovers for the night.
UNO returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 29, traveling to future Summit League foe Western Illinois for its final game of the 2011-12 season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Waste Management Court at Western Hall in Macomb, Ill.
