Peru State played tough in the first half, playing with the Mavs early on to tie it at 10-10. Back-to-back layups from Freeman and Coleman's second 3-pointer of the season finally pushed UNO ahead for good to 17-12, and the next basket was a special one for Albers, whose layup tied him with Forrest for second in school history. Drawing the foul, his subsequent free throw gave him sole possession of the No. 2 spot.
Welhouse later hit an open trey to make it 29-20, and a pair of his free throws then got the Mavs out to a 33-23 lead. Consecutive shots from PSC's Oppitz cut the score to 33-27, but UNO worked back out to a 42-32 advantage with two minutes left. The Bobcats again got within six late in the half, but a final dunk from Albers made it 48-38, and the Mavericks took a 48-40 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Peru State made it a two-point ballgame with a 3-pointer by Tighe, but a Karhoff dunk followed by a short Albers jumper helped the Mavs regain control at 57-50. Coleman's layup later spotted UNO a 64-51 lead, and three straight baskets from him and Freeman stretched it to 73-55. With crowd-pleasing dunks from Albers and Freeman, UNO went up 77-55, and eight more points from Coleman – including the layup to push the Mavericks to the century mark – propelled the offensive attack. Behind a final 54-21 scoring run, UNO finished with a season-high 58 second-half points and cruised to the 106-71 victory.
