EAST LANSING, Mich. –
A day after earning its first win over a Division I opponent at Northern Illinois, the UNO basketball team faced national power Michigan State, falling 110-68 to the Spartans in front of 14,797 fans at the Breslin Center. With the loss, the Mavericks are now 3-6 on the year, while MSU improves to 6-2.

Senior guard Mitch Albers led the Mavs with 17 points, two steals and an assist. Junior forward Alex Welhouse and freshman guard Mitchell Farr each contributed nine points – with Farr's mark a career high – and sophomores Caleb Steffensmeier and John Karhoff chipped in eight apiece. Albers, Welhouse and Steffensmeier all hit two 3-pointers for the game.

Sophomore forward Matt Hagerbaumer led the way in rebounding, pulling down a career-best six boards.

Michigan State had five players with double-figure scoring, paced by senior forward Draymond Green's 23 points and 10 rebounds. Green, the half-brother of former UNO guard Torrian Harris, also had four assists and a steal and shot 10-for-18 from the field with a pair of treys.

Brandon Wood (20), Keith Appling (13), Adreian Payne (10) and Derrick Nix (10) also finished in double figures, and Appling added nine rebounds for the day.

As a team, Nebraska Omaha shot 37.9 percent from the floor with nine 3-pointers made and committed a season-low eight turnovers. The Spartans put together a complete game, shooting at a 61.3 percent clip from the floor and 90.9 percent at the free throw line while also outrebounding UNO 54-16. In addition, MSU scored 60 of its points in the paint and 24 off second-chance opportunities.

The Spartans used 63.2 percent shooting in the first half to take a sizable lead by halftime. Led by three players in double figures early – Green (13), Appling (11) and Wood (10) – Michigan State took as large as a 33-point advantage in the final minute. Albers was UNO's top scorer out of the gate, totaling 11 first-half points.

Freshman guard CJ Carter got the Mavs started with a 3-pointer to open the game at 3-0, but Michigan State quickly took over and went up 22-5. Albers' spurt of 11 points in four minutes cut the margin to 33-20, but the Spartans went on 15-2 scoring run to push further ahead. Farr managed two more UNO baskets before the end of the half, and after back-to- back layups from Nix and Green, the score stood at 59-26.

The second half was much the same, though Nebraska Omaha improved to 50 percent shooting and dropped in seven 3-pointers as a squad. Michigan State, however, shot 59.5 percent and had 10 more points apiece from Green and Wood. Green proved even tougher on the boards, pulling down seven second-half rebounds.

Down 64-26, Welhouse hit his first 3-pointer of the game two minutes into the second stanza, but Green followed with five straight points to make it 70-29. The Mavericks then countered with back-to-back treys by Steffensmeier and Farr, bringing the score to 72-35. Four UNO threes over a span of five minutes, as well as a dunk by Albers, helped UNO over the half-century mark to 90-54, but another 15-2 run gave MSU its largest lead of the game at 105-56. Though the Mavs mustered 11 more points in the final minutes, Michigan State went on to earn the win, 110-68.

UNO returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6, traveling to Benedictine College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
