Maverick Football Signs Local Standout

OMAHA, Neb. – UNO head football coach Pat Behrns announced today the signing of incoming freshman Stephon Washington.  He will join the team in the fall of 2010 and play cornerback.

“We're very fortunate to get someone of Stephon's caliber at this point in the recruiting season,” said Behrns.  “With his speed and athleticism, we expect him to play a prominent role for us in the years ahead.”

Washington was a running back and punt and kick returner while playing for Burke High School in Omaha.  He also lettered in track where he recently completed his high school career by winning his fourth consecutive state championship in the 300 meter hurdles.  In so doing, he became the first athlete since 1920 to win four straight state titles in one event.  He also was awarded the all-class gold medal in the 300 m hurdles, repeating the feat he accomplished as a sophomore and junior.

Washington will major in construction management at UNO.
