All 10 Mavs Qualify for Nationals as UNO Captures

Final Brackets

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The top-ranked University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team rolled to its second-straight NCAA Division II Super Regional 2 championship and crowned five individual champions Sunday at the UCM Multipurpose Building on the campus of Central Missouri. All 10 Maverick wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight class to advance to the National Tournament.

The win marks the ninth regional title UNO has won under head coach Mike Denney. UNO's 166 team points are the most ever the team has compiled at a regional tournament.

Cody Garcia punched his ticket to his fourth career National Tournament after claiming his fourth regional title. The two-time national champion and three-time All-American received a win by medical forfeit over Central Oklahoma's Scott Berens at 133. Garcia improves to 45-0 on the year and passed Ross Taplin for fourth on UNO's all-time career wins list with a career mark of 144-17. Garcia picked up two more wins by fall to move his season total to 29.

Fellow senior and two-time All-American Jacob Marrs will also make his fourth appearance at nationals. The Oak Hill, Kan., native captured his first career regional title with a 2-0 win over Jarrett Edison of Central Oklahoma 197-pound championship bout.

Mario Morgan will make his third trip to nationals after winning his second regional title at 141 pounds. He beat #6 Daniel Genetin 5-2 in the championship match for his 26th straight win.

Broken hand and all, Ryan Pankoke earned his first career trip to the National Tournament claiming the crown at 165 pounds in his defeat of Derrick Adkins of Central Oklahoma. Pankoke and Adkins needed extra time to settle their bout, but Pankoke scored an escape to get the 6-4 sudden victory.

Also making his first trip to the National Tournament will be 285-pounder Elijah Madison. The redshirt freshman from Kansas City, Mo., took first with a dramatic 5-4 win in the championship match over Dustin Finn of Central Oklahoma. With the score locked at 3-3 in the third period, Madison scored a last second takedown to get the win. Had he not gotten the takedown, Finn's riding time advantage would have given him the 4-3 victory.

At 149, Esai Dominguez collected second-place for the second straight year. He fell to top-seeded Craig Becker of Wisconsin-Parkside 12-7 in the championship match. Dominguez will make his second appearance at the National Tournament.

George Ivanov placed second at 157 pounds and will make his first career trip to the national tournament. The redshirt freshman from Council Bluffs, Iowa lost a hard-fought match to Wisconsin-Parkside's Dillon Bera, 7-6. The second-seeded Bera scored points as time expired in third period to earn the win.

Two-time All-American Aaron Denson will make his third trip to nationals. He finished second at 174, falling in the championship match to second-seeded Luke Rynish of Wisconsin-Parkside, 6-5.

Terrell McKinney took third place and qualified for nationals for the first time in his career. The redshirt freshman defeated Brandon Davis of Ashland 3-2 at 125 pounds.

Sophomore Austin Boehm will make his second trip to the National Tournament with a third-place finish at 184 . Boehm defeated Central Oklahoma's Tanner Keck 7-2 in the third-place match. As a freshman in 2006-07, Boehm collected a second-place finish at nationals.

UNO will look for its seventh national championship in school history when it hosts the 2010 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Omaha, Neb., March 12-13. The Mavs won team titles in 1970, 1991, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009.
