HAYS, Kan. - Head coach Mike Denney earned his 300th career win Sunday as the top-ranked Mavericks caged the Truman Bulldogs 53-0 in the second session of the 2010 MIAA Duals at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Denney, who is in his 31st season with the Mavs, is now 300-110-5 all-time at UNO.
The Mavericks improve to 11-1 on the year in duals while the Bulldogs drop to 2-11. It's the biggest dual win by a UNO team since a 53-0 rout of St. Cloud State on Jan. 26, 2006.
At 125, Terrell McKinney won his 10th dual of the season with a win by fall over Rolland Wimberly at 2:33. Esai Dominguez followed up McKinney's pin with one of his own over Jordan Powell at 149 pounds.
George Ivanov became UNO's fifth 30-match winner of the season. He defeated Andy Bader 17-6 at 157. Nathan Sigman got the win at 165 with UNO's second major decision of the dual over Bryan Isbell, 11-2.
At 184, Austin Boehm needed just 22 seconds to defeat Chad Kurovski by fall. Jacob Marrs won his 17th mach by fall of the season when he pinned Zach Hayes at 1:56 of the 197-pound match. Elijah Madison won the 285-pound battle 5-3 over Loyde Braidlow.
Cody Garcia (133), Mario Morgan (141) and Aaron Denson (174) all received wins by forfeit.
It's the third time in program history that a Maverick wrestling team has recorded three dual shutouts in a single season. The team did it during the 1967-68 and 1969-70 seasons. The 1978-79 UNO wrestling team owns the all-time school record with four dual shutouts in a season.
The Mavs face No. 15 Fort Hays State (11-3) at 5 p.m. in the final session of the 2010 MIAA Duals.
