Higgins, Lingenfelter Selected to Compete in 2011

OMAHA, Neb. - UNO senior football players Mike Higgins and Harrison Lingenfelter have been selected to play in the 2011 Cactus Bowl on Jan. 7, 2011.

The Cactus Bowl is an all-star game featuring NCAA Division II senior football players. This year's game will be played at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas.

Lingenfelter, the Mavs' starting left tackle in all 11 games in 2010, is a two-time All-MIAA First Team selection. Lingenfelter helped anchor an offensive line that led the Mavs to the second-best rushing offense (202.6 ypg) in the MIAA and the fourth-best scoring offense (34.8 ppg). Lingenfelter and his offensive line unit allowed only 13 sacks on the season, the second lowest total in the MIAA. The Plainview, Neb., native was also named a Daktronics All-Super Region Four First-Team selection after the 2010 season.

Higgins, the Mavs' top tight end in 2010, is a three-time All-MIAA honoree. Higgins was the leading receiver for the Mavs' high-powered offense, making 39 catches for 600 yards this season (54.5 ypg). He also caught a team-best seven touchdowns on his way to earning a spot on the All-MIAA Second Team.

A native of Pickrell, Neb., Higgins was a Daktronics Division II Offensive Second-Team All-American after his junior year in 2009. This year, he had two 100-yard receiving games in 2010 (103 at Truman, 101 vs. Emporia State), more than any other MIAA tight end.
