OMAHA, Neb. - UNO sophomore quarterback John Teigland was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association today. It's the second time he's earned the award.
Teigland threw for a school record five touchdowns in windy conditions as the Mavericks beat Truman, 62-61. He completed 20 of 31 passes for 314 yards including a game high 44 yard completion for a touchdown in the second quarter. He also ran six times for 23 yards. The native of Indianola, Iowa led the Mavericks back from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter and engineered a nine-play, 65-yard drive in 1:27 for the winning score, a five-yard pass to Mike Higgins with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
Teigland also earned the honor on Oct. 4 following the Mavericks' 42-17 win over Emporia State when he threw for a career-high 319 yards and two touchdowns.
