OMAHA, Neb. - The top-ranked UNO wrestling team opened home action of its 2009-10 dual season in dominating fashion Friday night with a 40-3 win over Lindenwood at Sapp Fieldhouse. Lindenwood is the ninth ranked team and three-time defending champions of the NAIA. UNO won all but one match in the dual.
The win lifts the Mavericks to 5-0 in dual matches on the year, while the loss dips the Lions to 4-2. UNO has now won 18-straight duals.
Redshirt freshman Terrell McKinney (125) started the Mavs off with a 9-6 win over Galen Williams.
Cody Garcia (133) picked up his team-leading 29th win of the year with a 14-4 major decision over Corey Duncan. Mario Morgan pinned Brad Neitenbach at 6:22 of the third period to give the Mavs a quick 13-0 lead in the dual.
The Lions picked up their only win of the dual at 149 with Sam Schmitz earning the win over fourth-ranked Esai Dominguez, 7-3.
Sophomore Nathan Sigman (165) used riding time to earn a point and tied his match with Jake Johnson as the third period expired to extend the match into over time. Sigman scored a takedown with nine seconds left in the extra time to earn the sudden victory, 5-3.
Brett Rosedale (174), Austin Boehm (184) and Jacob Marrs (197) each collected wins by fall in their matches.
Third-ranked 285 pounder Elijah Madison defeated Tyler Porras, 6-3.
The Mavericks will be back on the mat tomorrow when they host the 2010 Brand Open. Wrestling gets underway from Sapp Fieldhouse at 9 a.m.
