BILLINGS, Mont. --
Michael Jenkins scored 28 points Sunday afternoon as the University of Nebraska at Omaha pulled away from a halftime tie to post a 98-85 non-conference win over Montana State-Billings.
No. 18 ranked UNO improved to 11-1 on the season with its fourth-straight victory, while the Yellowjackets fell to 0-10.
The Mavericks raced out front by 31-20 with 7:24 left in the first half, but the Yellowjackets wiped out the lead by scoring 21 of the next 28 points to take a 41-39 advantage with 25 seconds left.
Tyler Albers knotted the score with a short jumper in the lane at the buzzer.
Billings remained close through the opening five minutes of the second half before back-to-back three-pointers by
Justin Petersen and
Denny Johnston gave UNO a 63-54 lead with 14 minutes to play.
Minutes later the Mavericks had a 7-0 spurt as
Jerry Bennett converted a three-point play and capped the run with a short jumper after a pair of free throws by
Mitch Albers. That gave UNO a 74-61 lead and the advantage stayed in double digits the rest of the way.
Jenkins connected on 10 of his 13 shots, including 3-for-4 shooting from behind the three-point arc. He also added seven rebounds.
Mitch Albers scored 18 points and Bennett 15, all in the second half, with a game-high nine rebounds. Johnston finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
John Brooks led the Yellowjackets with 20 points and Aaron Terry had 18.
UNO will be idle until hosting Doane on Jan. 4 at Sapp Fieldhouse, in the final non-conference tune-up before opening North Central Confernce action Jan. 10 against Augustana.
