The University of Nebraska-Omaha men's basketball team got back in the win column, defeating Midland Lutheran, 98-73, in a nonconference game Sunday afternoon at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Michael Jenkins reached the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season, scoring an even 20 to lead No. 12 UNO (8-1).
Jerry Bennett scored a season-high 15 points, while
Denny Johnston scored 12.
Tyler Albers added 10 off the bench.
Matt Newman scored nine with a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Mavericks got off to a shaky start, allowing the Warriors (3-9) to jump out to an 11-4 lead less than four minutes into the game. A pair of free throws by
Andrew Bridger, a layup by Johnston and a 3-pointer by
Nate Owen sparked a 13-2 run to get UNO into the lead. The momentum would continue through the rest of the half as the Mavericks took a 51-38 lead into the break, posting a .600 shooting percentage. UNO stayed consistent in the second half, maintaining at least a 10-point lead throughout.
Luke Simons and Evan Lamprecht led Midland Lutheran with 17 points each. Lamprecht was the team's top rebounder with six.
The Mavericks return to action Wednesday against Sioux Falls at 8 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
