No. 13 Bearcats Get Revenge, Top Mavs, 84-64

The No. 12-ranked University of Nebraska-Omaha men's basketball team suffered a poor shooting night, as No. 13 Northwest Missouri State avenged its only loss of the season, defeating the Mavericks 84-64 Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse.

UNO (7-1) hit only 36 percent of its field goal tries on the night, including 30 percent in the first half. The Bearcats (6-1) hit on 51 percent of their tries. But the real advantage was on the glass, as Northwest outrebounded the Mavs 41-29.

Denny Johnston was the only Maverick player who could get shots to fall through most of the game, finishing 6-for-9, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range, finishing with 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Michael Jenkins struggled most of the night, but hit two 3-pointers late to also finish with 16 points. Andrew Bridger was held to seven points, but tied a season-high with eight assists.

The Bearcats dominated the paint, scoring 40 inside. Forward Andrais Thornton scored 18 to lead the team, adding seven rebounds. Hunter Henry and Matt Withers each grabbed eight rebounds.

The Mavericks return to action with a Sunday matinee, taking on Midland Lutheran at 1 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
