Zac Robinson scored 16 points and
Denny Johnston grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Mavericks come from behind the second half to end a six-game losing skid with a 66-58 North Central Conference win over Minnesota Duluth at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
The Mavericks, now 14-15 on the year, improved to 3-8 in the NCC before closing the regular season Saturday night at home against Minnesota State. UMD fell to 14-12 and 5-6.
The Mavericks built an early lead at 11-4 before the Bulldogs scored 10 straight points. UMD went on to claim a 31-27 halftime lead and held UNO scoreless for the first 2:30 of the second half, building a 34-27 lead.
UNO chipped away at the lead, before overtaking the Bulldogs on
Grant Nieland's three-pointer, 43-42, with 11:11 to play in the middle of a 9-0 run.
Ryan Curtis' layup with 3:33 left gave UNO a 58-48 lead and the Bulldogs could get no closer than five the rest of the way as the Mavericks hit four of six free throws in the final 90 seconds.
The win was the 10th at home for the Mavericks this year and gave UNO a split in the series with the Bulldogs.
Curtis added 12 points and
Calvin Kapels 11 to go with eight rebounds and seven assists for UNO. Jordan Nuness and Sean Seaman each had 12 points to lead Minnesota Duluth, which will finish its regular season at North Dakota Saturday night.
