The Mavericks used a tight defense and balanced scoring to shut down Missouri Valley College in a 94-59 win to open the home season Tuesday night at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.

Derrin Hansen's Mavs are now 2-4 before hosting Colorado State-Pueblo Friday night in the first game of the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott Classic at the fieldhouse at 8. Missouri Valley fell to 3-3.
UNO trailed only once in the early going before steadily building its lead to 46-30 at halftime, aided by a 14-2 run over a five-minute span in the closing minutes.
The Mavs held the Vikings to just 27 percent shooting after the break and opened the half with a 16-2 run to expand their lead to 62-32.

Zac Robinson led five players in double figures with 16 points.

Calvin Kapels and Jammal Byers each added 13 points and
Quantel Murphy 10 for the Mavericks.
Ryan Pace pulled down eight rebounds and Murphy seven to lead UNO.
Damon Collins scored 15 points and added 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings.
