Abby Gunnink was hired as an assistant athletic trainer in July 2023, working primarily with the women's basketball and women's tennis programs.
Prior to joining the Mavericks, Gunnink served 5 years as the head athletic trainer and 2 years as an assistant athletic trainer at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. She primarily worked with the football, softball, and women's tennis programs. Prior to NSU, she lived in Portland, OR and worked 1 year at Cleveland High School and 1 year as an assistant athletic trainer at Portland State University. Prior to that, she served 2 years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at PSU working primarily with the softball program.
An Omaha, NE native, Gunnink earned a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training from Nebraska in May 2012. Gunnink completed a Master of Education degree in health studies from Portland State University in June 2014. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
