Volunteer assistant coach Tanya Cate enters her sixth year on the Omaha volleyball staff in 2015, having served the past five seasons as an assistant coach.
Cate joined the UNO staff after coaching since 2006 with The Courts Volleyball Club, where she taught individual skills and competitive team play to athletes from ages 7 to 15. She also served as an assistant coach at Yutan High School, guiding the freshman and junior varsity teams in 1999-2000. Cate has been an NSCA certified personal trainer since 2002.
One of the most accomplished players in Omaha volleyball history, Cate was a two-time All-American at outside and middle hitter. She was a member of the 1996 national championship team and was inducted into the UNO Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
Cate was also named NCC Most Valuable Player in 1997 and earned All-NCC honors in her junior and senior seasons. After her senior campaign in 1997, Cate was selected as the Maverick Female Athlete of the Year.
A native of Omaha, she attended Yutan High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNO in 1998.
