Makayla Westphal

Makayla Westphal arrives at Omaha after spending the 2017 season as the Director of Volleyball Operations at San Diego State. During her time with the Aztecs, she was in charge of coordinating travel, budget tracking, DataVolley and video analysis, as well as the summer camp director. 

Over the past seven years, Westphal has coached at multiple clubs, including Volleyball Club Nebraska (VCN) and Panhandle Power in Lincoln, Neb., as well as WAVE Volleyball Club in San Diego, Calif. She has both head coached and assisted teams, ages ranging 14-18.  

In addition to her club coaching experience, Westphal served as a volunteer for the Nebraska volleyball program, working under the Director of Operations in 2016. Prior to her college experience, Westphal was a volunteer assistant coach and student teacher for Waverly High School. She also served as an evaluator for the girls' National Junior and High-Performance Team tryouts conducted by USA Volleyball. 

As a player, Westphal was a four-year starter as an outside hitter and defensive specialist at Nebraska Wesleyan, where she was a member of the AD31 All-Academic Team and named a Pflieger-Olson Scholar-Athlete. She led the Prairie Wolves in service aces as a senior when the team finished top 10 nationally.  

A native of Scottsbluff, Neb., Westphal was a 12-sport letterwinner in volleyball, basketball, soccer and track. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan in 2015 with a degree in physical education and a minor in psychology and coaching. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership at Omaha.
