Matthew Barlow was named the head coach of the men's tennis program in May 2020. He served as an assistant during the 2019-20 season.
Barlow enters his third season at the helm of the men's tennis team. In the 2021-22 season, Barlow led the Mavericks to a nine-win season. Under Barlow, the Mavericks achieved their longest win streak since the 2018-19 season with five consecutive victories. He helped freshman Todd Chen to the team's lone Summit League Athlete of the Week honor.
In Barlow's first season as the head coach, Omaha notched 13 wins with a 3-2 finish in league play to earn the No. 3 seed at the Summit League Tournament. The Mavericks advanced to the championship match after downing No. 2 Drake, 4-0, in the semifinals.
Matt Hulme, Aboul Ouattara, and Davis Lawley collected All-Summit League honors that season. Ouattara was a two-time Summit League Athlete of the Week award winner, while Hulme earned the accolade once that year.
Prior to Bethel, Barlow served as the assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis teams at NCAA Division II Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
During his two seasons at Washburn, Barlow assisted in the development of the team into a national contender. The Ichabods reached the Elite Eight of the 2018 NCAA DII Championships during Barlow's tenure, the furthest in program history. He also served as a tennis professional at both the Topeka Country Club and the Country Club of Missouri.
Barlow played collegiately at Washburn where he was three-time MIAA All-Conference selection. He also earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete and MIAA Sportsmanship Award recognition. During his time, he garnered All-America status from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2016.
Barlow earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Washburn.
