Mavs Stay on Top in Latest NWCA Poll

EDMOND, Okla. - The University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team maintained its No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings released on Wednesday, with the defending national champion Mavericks the unanimous first-place pick in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

UNO collected all eight first-place votes in balloting of coaches from around the country to finish with 160 in the sixth poll of the regular season. The Mavs have held their stranglehold on the top spot for 13 straight polls for the past two years. UNO was tops in all seven polls in the 2008-09 season en route to winning its fifth Division II title.

Newberry (S.C.) received all eight second-place votes and stayed No. 2 with 152 points, while Upper Iowa jumped from sixth to third, Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) fell a spot to fourth and Wisconsin-Parkside moved up two spots to fifth. Rounding out the top 10 is Augustana (S.D.), Minnesota State, Gannon (Pa.), St. Cloud State and Nebraska-Kearney.

Individually, the Mavs have wrestlers ranked in the top four in all 10 weight classes.

#Jacob Marrs# remains No. 1 at 197 pounds. #Terrell McKinney# (125), #Cody Garcia# (133), #George Ivanov# (157), #Aaron Denson# (174) and #Elijah Madison# (285) are all ranked No. 2. #Mario Morgan# (141) and #Esai Dominguez# (149) are both ranked No. 3.  #Ryan Pankoke# (165) and #Austin Boehm# (184) are both No. 4.

The 2010 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will be held March 12-13 in Omaha, Neb.
