Former UNO Wrestler Takes Shot at U.S. World Team
OMAHA, Neb. - Former UNO wrestling standout Les Sigman will vie for a chance to represent his country at the U.S. World Team Trials at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31. Sigman is one of the top contenders to make the team and will be competing in the 264.5 pound class.
Sigman will compete on Sunday. The first session is scheduled for 9 a.m. with the finals on tap for 6:30 p.m. Sigman was third at the U.S. Nationals held in April in Las Vegas, Nev.
Sigman is UNO's only four-time national champion and one of only a handful in all of Division II wrestling. He helped lead the Mavericks to three straight national championships from 2004 - 2006. He posted a career record of 179-7 and was 47-0 during his senior year of 2005-06. He was twice named UNO's male athlete of the year.
