Higgins Named Second Team All-American
OMAHA, Neb. - UNO junior tight end #Mike Higgins# was named a Daktronics second team All-American today, one of six players from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association to earn the honor. Higgins had been named to the All-Super Region IV team just two weeks ago.
The native of Pickrell, Neb. recently finished the season with the Mavericks at the inaugural Kanza Bowl in Topeka, Kan. He led all UNO receivers in 2009 with 50 catches for 848 yards and nine touchdowns. He led all receivers with an average of 70.7 yards receiving per game. He is the first tight end to lead UNO in receiving since 1991.
In addition, Higgins ranked in the top ten in the league in receptions per game, yards per catch and total receptions. He was named to the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association First Team this season and was also a 2008 MIAA Academic All-Conference pick and a member of the 2007 North Central Conference Honor Roll.
