KINGSVILLE, Texas - Nebraska-Omaha's three participants in the annual Valero Cactus Bowl Division II All-Star Game all played big roles in a 28-27 win for the West squad at Javelina Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M Kingsville. Linebacker
Jeff Souder led the way with 7 tackles and was named Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Of Souder's seven tackles, three were solo stops. He was also credited with one pass break-up as well as one carry for no yards.
UNO quarterback
Zach Miller, who played at tight end in the game, caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Minnesota-Duluth quarterback Ted Schlafke with 8:18 to go in the third quarter to put the West team up 21-16. Miller finished the game with 5 catches for a team-high 116 yards. He also ran the ball three times for 10 yards.
Tailback
Brian McNeill carried the ball 5 times for 33 yards on a windy night in Kingsville, Texas.
More than 100 Division II players have earned pro contracts after participating in the Valero Cactus Bowl and it's predecessor, the Snow Bowl.
