CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- For the seventh-consecutive year, the University of Nebraska at Omaha wrestling team has advanced to the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals. The No. 2-ranked Mavericks advanced by defeating No. 17 Minnesota State, Moorhead, 37-6, on Saturday in the quarterfinals at the UNI Dome.
UNO will battle defending national champion Central Oklahoma at 11 a.m. Sunday morning in the semifinals.
Nebraska-Omaha won eight of 10 matches, including two pins and a major decision en route to the victory over the Dragons.
Top-ranked Todd Meneely rebounded from his first loss of the season, by pinning Troy Macfarland in 1:03. Brent Pankoke collected his second win of the day, pinning Dan LeDuc in 2:44.
Mario Morgan, who defaulted his first match of the day, scored a major decision, 15-2, win over Casey Dschaak.
Besides Pankoke, four other Mavericks also went 2-0 on the day, including Aaron Denson (165), Ross Taplin (174), Jacob Marrs (197), and Tony Lewis (285).
Taplin, who is not ranked, upset second-ranked Tyler Tubbs, 15-10, to improve to 8-2 on the season.
