Naig Earns Spot on NCC All-Academic Team
National wrestling champion JD Naig has been selected to the North Central Conference men's academic at-large team by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Naig, a senior who carries a 3.30 cumulative grade point average in biology/pre-chiropractice studies at UNO, is from Emmetsburg, Iowa.
The 10-member all-academic squad includes student-athletes who have a minimum 3.20 GPA, are in their second year at the current school and who competed in golf, tennis, swimming & diving or wrestling.
Naig won the NCAA Division II national championship at 174 pounds and finished the season with a 42-7 record, including an undefeated mark in NCAA Division II competition. He was honored as both the NCAA Division II National Tournament Outstanding Wrestler and the UNO Wrestler of the Year. Of his 42 wins this season, Naig scored bonus points in 24 of them (15 falls, nine major decisions). He finished his career with a 140-26 mark, the fourth-best in UNO history, and was a three-time NCAA Division II champion.
