Behrns Earns AFCA Regional Honor
Maverick head coach Pat Behrns has been named the regional coach of the year in NCAA Division II by the American Football Coaches Association. Behrns, who led the Mavericks to their fourth straight conference title and a 10-1 record, shares the regional honor with Chadron State head coach Bill O'Boyle.
The national winner will be announced at the AFCA convention in January.
It's the second time Behrns has earned the honor. He has led the Mavericks to 12 straight winning seasons and seven North Central Conference titles in his 14 seasons as the UNO head coach. The all-time winningest coach in school history, he has a 105-53 mark at UNO and a 141-80 record in 20 collegiate seasons as a head coach.
In 2007, UNO recorded its first undeafeated regular season since 1954, going 10-0. The Mavericks lost in the second round of the NCAA II playoffs.
