Mavericks Host Brand Open Saturday
UNO will return home this weekend to host the Glen Brand Open at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday, Jan. 21. The first matches will begin at 9 a.m. No team scoring will be kept in the meet, which will have a field of about 100 competitors representing 12 schools. There will be no set time for the finals, and the meet should conclude by 4 p.m.

Schools entered include Dana, Fort Hays State, American University, Iowa State, Iowa, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Wyoming, Northern Iowa, Northwestern University, Nebraska-Kearney, UNO.
Last Week
The Mavericks captured their second straight NWCA National Dual Meet Tournament with four straight wins. It was UNO's first dual competition of the season after five open tournaments. UNO won at least seven matches in each of the duals, advancing with wins over Fort Hays State (24-9); Augustana (28-11); Central Oklahoma (28-12) and Minnesota State, Mankato (20-10). Cody Garcia, 125; Dan Hilario, 133; J.D. Naig, 174, and heavyweight Les Sigman all went 4-0 in the meet. Chris Alt and Mitch Waite split time at 141 and each went 2-0.
The Coach
Mike Denney is in his 27th season as the Maverick head coach. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 256-101-5 career mark. He has twice been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year and led the 1991, 2004 and 2005 Mavericks to NCAA II national championships. UNO has also won three National Dual titles, in 1997, 2005 and 2006.
Maverick Notes
Senior heavyweight Les Sigman will sit out this week with a shoulder injury suffered in the final match of the dual tournament...freshman 197-pounder Jacob Marrs will likely miss the rest of the season with a knee injury...Sigman has not lost to a Division II opponent since the 2003-04 season.

UNO will not return to Sapp Fieldhouse until hosting Minnesota State, Mankato Feb. 10, a rematch of the championship meeting in last week's National Dual Tournament. Match time is 7 p.m.
