Ryan Krause Drafted by Chargers

Maverick wide receiver Ryan Krause was selected in the sixth round of Sunday's National Football League draft by the San Diego Chargers. Krause, who caught 67 passes for 1,066 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, was the 169th overall pick in the draft.

The 6-2, 244-pound Millard South High School product was the North Central Conference's most valuable receiver last year and played in two post-season all-star games, the Blue-Gray Classic and the Cactus Bowl. He caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the Blue-Gray Classic.

Krause joins three former Mavericks in the NFL: defensive lineman Chris Cooper of the Oakland Raiders; offensive lineman Chris Bober, who recently signed with the Kansas City Chiefs after starting two seasons with the New York Giants, and wide receiver MarTay Jenkins, who signed with the Denver Broncos at the end of the season. Jenkins set an NFL record for kickoff returns and yardage in 2000 while a member of the Arizona Cardinals.
