Mavs Defeat Nebraska-Kearney, 26-15

KEARNEY, NEB. -- The No. 3 Mavericks returned to the win column with a 26-15 non-conference victory over No. 12 Nebraska-Kearney Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center. UNO had one pin and a major decision to help post the win that improved its record to 7-2. UNK fell to 5-9.
UNO started the dual off with five consecutive wins by Patrick Allibone, Chas DeVetter, J.D. Naig, Steve Conlin and Nate Oviatt for a 19-0 lead. It was not until the Lopers' second-ranked Jeff Sylvester's pin at 197 pounds over Ben Strandberg that UNK finally put points on the scoreboard.
No. 1 ranked heavyweight Les Sigman all but wrapped up the win in the seventh match of the night. Sigman improved to 34-1 with a 12-2 major decison over Jared Jorgenson to put the Mavs out front, 23-6, with three matches left.
The Lopers then posted a pair of wins to close the gap as second-ranked Bryce Abbey defeated UNO's Dustin Tovar and seventh-ranked Adam Keiswetter upset No. 5 ranked Mitch Waite at 133 with a pin in 3:42.
Eli Dominguez won the final match of the night for UNO.
The Mavericks return home next weekend, hosting Minnesota State Friday night and St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon.
