Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ndione's clean sheet lifts men's soccer to Summit League opener win

OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Men's Soccer started Summit League play with a bang Saturday as the Mavericks (2-5-2, 1-0-0 Summit) scored a pair of first half goals to defeat St. Thomas at Caniglia Field.

Graduate student forward Theo Klein (Strasbourg, France) logged his first of four chances on the evening in the second minute with a rocket high of the crossbar. Donovan Dowling's side was able to follow up six minutes later with a shot high by sophomore forward Bradley Takamo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).

In the 12th minute of play, Omaha senior forward Kaito Ueki (Nerima-Ku, Japan) was fouled in the box, sending Klein to the spot for his first penalty opportunity of the season. The Mavericks' all-time leading goal scorer went right to score his third goal of the campaign (21st career goal) to put Omaha up 1-0.

Omaha doubled up in the 24th minute as sophomore Maguire Perkins (Gretna, Neb.) cleaned up the rebound off a Takamo shot to finish-off his third goal of the campaign. M. Perkins and Klein are tied for the team lead.

Junior goalkeeper Kamy Ndione (Osaka, Japan) did not face a shot-on-target in the opening 45 minutes and was sprung into action for five stops in the second half.

St. Thomas outshot Omaha, 12-3, in the second half after the sides had an even six in the first half of play. Omaha did not record a shot-on-target in the final 45 minutes.

Summit League action continues for the Mavs on Saturday, Oct. 4 as Omaha takes on Kansas City at Durwood Soccer Park in Kansas City, Mo. at 7 p.m. CT live on the Summit League Network.

The Mavericks return home to Caniglia Field to face conference newcomer UMass on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
