PEORIA, Ill. - Omaha men's soccer continued its four-match road trip Saturday as the Mavericks battled Bradley at Shea Stadium in a defensive showdown. The sides combined for just four shots-on-target in the opening 45 minutes in a back line showcase, though a late penalty conceded by Omaha allowed the Braves to level the tally to finish in a 1-1 draw.
Omaha applied pressure early with senior midfielder
Oskar Kvarnback (Stockholm, Sweden) logging a scoring chance in the first minute, though it was straight at Braves' goalkeeper Drew Berry. Holding the home side without a shot in the opening 12 minutes, junior forward
Italo Jenkins (Atlanta, Ga.) made good touches in the box, though his shot in the area went wide of the post.
Junior goalkeeper
Kamy Ndione (Osaka, Japan) made his second start of the season. Ndione entered the match with four saves in 90 minutes played and the junior was sprung into action three times in the first 45 minutes at Bradley.
Donovan Dowling looked for a momentum change in the first half with a trio of subs in the 36th minute, bringing on a midfielder, attacking defender and forward.
Bradley had a run of chances down the stretch of the opening period with three-straight chances, culminating with a ricochet off the cross bar.
Klein's first shot of the season came in the 37th minute, just high of the crossbar.
The Mavericks ended the half with their lone corner kick of the period, though nothing would come of the chance before the halftime break.
Out of the halftime break, it was off to the races with both teams trading possession.
Sophomore forward
Bradley Takamo (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) had a scoring chance in the 55th minute in the right side of the box, though Berry's dive just inside the post prevented the opening goal of the match.
Seconds later, sophomore defender
Maguire Perkins (Gretna, Neb.) got behind Ndione for a heads-up team save, holding the Braves' attack at bay.
Klein's left-footed boot in the 66th minute marked his 19th career goal to put Omaha in front, though 13 minutes later, Bradley would level with a penalty kick goal taken by Michael Switala.
Omaha was outshot by Bradley, 15-11.
Ndione finished with three saves in his second complete game of the season.
Omaha concludes the road spell on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Notre Dame on ACCNX at 6 p.m. CT.
