ST. PAUL, Min. - The Omaha Mavericks exploded for one of their largest shutout wins in Summit League history, downing St. Thomas 5-0 in St. Paul Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks (7-6-3, 2-4-1) struggled to score goals much of the season but five different players found the net - all in the second half - for the win over the Tommies (4-10-2, 1-7-0). The last time Omaha posted a five goal shutout win came in 2022 when they downed Lindenwood 5-0.
Shaking up their lineup for the second week in a row to give more players the chance to gain experience,
Donovan Dowling was rewarded after a scoreless first half with an impressive onslaught of fourteen second half shots, 11 of those shots on goal.
Sophomore
Italo Jenkins (4 g) opened the scoring when he gathered a through ball from freshman Mikey Stukenholz to beat Moritz Krenc at 48:38.
Around 4:00 later, the speedy Stukenholz used his speed and ball skills to score his first goal as a Maverick at 52:33.
Elie Bokota assisted.
Senior
Theo Klein scored his fifth goal of the season at 63:06, moving within one of Omaha's career goal scoring mark of 19 held by Vance Rookwood (2011-2014).
The Mavericks never let up. At 67:29
Carson Chochon's unassisted goal made it 4-0. It was also his first as a Maverick. And
Mathis Pilon St-Louis (4 g) finished the scoring at 75:20 with an assist from
Abdi Adan.
Redshirt junior
Cole Stewart earned his second shutout in three starts this season. He only needed one save to secure the clean sheet.
The Mavericks have been one of the league's tightest defensive squads this year, but offense has been tough to come by. Entering the match, 13 of their 14 games were decided by one or fewer goals. The five goals against the Tommies equals Omaha's total scoring output from six previous Summit League games.
Omaha has a chance to rattle the Summit League standings when they host league-leading #9 Denver at Caniglia Field. The day will feature Senior Day honors, as Omaha bids farewell to a dozen graduating players.
