OMAHA, Neb. - The Mavericks just keep on winning as they picked up their eighth-straight victory with a 3-1 road win at Oral Roberts on Tuesday.
Omaha is now just a game under .500 on the season at 9-10 and moves to 8-1 in the Summit League to stay in first place. The Golden Eagles now drop to 3-16 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
Set by Set: (30-28, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22)
- In a marathon opening set, the Mavericks racked up 18 kills en route to victory. Rachel Fairbanks led the way with five, followed by Shayla McCormick and McKenna Ruch with four each, with the latter also recording four blocks. Leading by seven early on, the Mavericks slowly saw their lead shrink, culminating in a 25-25 tie. Both teams traded points, but in the end Fairbanks was able to score the 30th and final point to end the lengthy set.
- The match remained close into the second as neither team took a lead greater than two points. Despite four more kills from a red-hot McCormick, Omaha found itself trailing 15-13 halfway through. Out of the timeout, though, the Mavericks scored four straight to retake the lead, only for ORU to come right back and pull ahead 20-19. Omaha did manage to tie it at 24-24 and force an extended set once again on a clutch block from Emily Huss, but this time the Golden Eagles managed to come out on top.
- Following two close sets to begin the night, the Mavericks went on an early 7-0 scoring run to quickly put them up 9-1 in the third. It was the servers who gave Omaha the edge to begin the set, with Fava, Ivy Leuck, and Olivia Tukuafu combining for four total to make it 14-7. While Oral Roberts did cut the lead to just two at 20-18, clutch kills from Amanda Hardt and Ruch shut the door on ORU.
- After three quick points for Ruch and Fava's third ace, the Mavericks took an early five-point lead in set four and never looked back. Fairbanks continued to lead the Mavericks offense as she logged six more kills. McCormick would be the one to finish off ORU as she blasted one off the hands of two blockers to secure Omaha's eighth win in a row.
