Second Half Goal Flurry Ends in Draw

OMAHA, Neb. - A slow start Tuesday night did not hold the Mavericks a Bulldogs back in the second half. The teams exploded for four goals in the final 45 and finished in a 2-2 draw.

Omaha improves to 2-1-1 on the year.

How It Happened
  • The first half saw only nine combined shots with Drake holding a 5-4 edge at the break.
  • Gonzalo Cuevas tallied the first Maverick shot on goal in the 12th minute. Four short minutes later Kyle Reese challenged the Drake keeper, but it was also saved.
  • Cory Pitlik attempted a shot on goal in the 24th minute, but failed to find the back of the net. Mathis Pilon St-Louis recorded the final shot of the half in the 44th minute, and the match was deadlocked at the break.
  • Ten minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs finally broke through the Maverick defense for their first goal of the match. AJ Franklin connected on an assist from Sam Thornton.
  • In the 65th minute, Theo Klein scored the equalizer on a penalty kick following a handball inside the box.
  • Drake flipped the score back in its favor in the 84th minute. This time Thornton popped the ball over Nathanael Sallah's shoulder on an assist from Franklin.
  • The 2-1 lead did not last long for the Bulldogs. Tevin Rochester fed the ball to St-Louis in the center of the box. He used one touch from five yards out to even the match at 2-2.
  • Each team tallied one more off-target shot before time expired leading to a draw Tuesday night.

Inside the Box
  • Omaha outshot Drake, 17-13. The Mavericks tallied 13 shots in the second half. They finished with an 8-3 edge on shots on goal.
  • St-Louis took a game-high four shots.
  • Cuevas, Ede Gramberg, Thore Boehm, Klein, and Naz Astwood tallied two shots each.
  • St-Louis leads Omaha with three goals this season.
  • Klein's goal was the first of his career.
  • Sallah recorded two saves between the posts. He is 2-1-1 on the year.
