Omaha Falls in Road Match at UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas - UTRGV snapped a three-game skid vs. Omaha Saturday night. Goals within the first minute of each half helped them to a 4-1 win.

With the loss, the Mavericks are 3-3-1 overall.

How It Happened
  • UTRGV coverted in the first minute of Saturday's match vs. Omaha. Juan Pablo Gonzalez found the back of the net in the opening 60 second on an assist from Jan Engles.
  • In the 30th minute, a handball in the box gave the Vaqueros a chance to double their lead, but Nathanael Sallah made a diving save to hold them off. UTRGV led 1-0 at halftime.
  • It only took another 56 seconds into the second half for UTRGV to add its second goal of the night. This time Moiad Ankir struck assisted by Engles and Carrillo Beto for the game winner.
  • Engles added to his point total two minutes later increasing the lead, 3-0.
  • Kenji Mboma Dem nearly got on the board for the Mavericks in the 50th minute but couldn't connect.
  • UTRGV added another in the 66th. Martin Tellez added his name to the box score. Cesa Baltazar crossed into the box, while Yusuf Cueceuoglu tapped it Tellez's way for one touch. 
  • The Mavericks gained advantage in the 73rd minute after a red card was issued to Beto Carrillo. The card played in Omaha favor come the 79th minute. Tevin Rochester fired on a rebound from a corner kick earning Omaha's first goal of the night. The scoring ended with Rochester and UTRGV won, 4-1.


Inside the Box
  • Rochester's goal was his first of the season. He is the eighth Maverick to score this year.
  • UTRGV outshot Omaha, 11-6.
  • Rochester had a team-high three shots, while Mboma Dem added two.
  • Sallah falls to 3-3-1 on the year. He tallied three saves in goal.
