Mavericks Get Sixth Consecutive Sweep vs. North Dakota

OMAHA, Neb. - Riding their longest shutout streak since 2000, the Mavericks brought their best Thursday night as they swept the University of North Dakota 3-0 to extend their streak to six consecutive sweeps. This is now Omaha's second longest shutout streak since 1996, when they blanked nine opponents in a row.

The Mavericks continue to climb up the Summit League standings as they improve to 11-7 overall and 6-2 in league play, putting them in third place. Meanwhile, the Fighting Hawks, who entered the night ahead of Omaha in the standings, dropped to 8-10 and 5-2 in the conference.

Set by Set (25-22, 25-12, 25-12)

  • Set one was the closest of the evening, as both teams remained deadlocked until the very end. Omaha did strike first on a block from Morgan DeBow and Kali Jurgensmeier, immediately followed by a kill from Shayla McCormick. After the Fighting Hawks surged to take an 8-6 lead, Omaha responded with a 5-0 scoring run featuring a kill and a block from McKenna Ruch. UND gradually fought its way back to tie things up at 22-22, but the Mavericks remained steadfast and managed to close out the set after a block and a kill from Jurgensmeier, followed by one last kill from Marriah Buss.
  • Omaha kicked off set two by scoring six points in a row, with Jurgensmeier again recording the first point while McCormick knocked back-to-back service aces later on. The Mavericks then took a 10-1 lead thanks to two more kills from Jurgensmeier and a solo block from Ruch. Omaha continued to grow its lead after a few more kills from Buss, McCormick, Rachel Fairbanks, and Mariah Murdie, eventually going up by 13 at 23-10 and icing the set shortly after.
  • Jurgensmeier once again opened scoring with a kill to begin set three. Omaha soon found itself with another commanding lead as it went up 10-4 after a 6-0 run that included a Brilee Wieseler ace. Jurgensmeier would later give the Mavericks a 12-point lead as she notched another kill to make it 19-7. Olivia Curry gave Omaha its largest lead of the night at 24-9 after she recorded an ace and induced a bad set from North Dakota on back-to-back serves. Just like in set one, it would be Buss who delivered the final blow to the Fighting Hawks and give Omaha its largest sweep streak in over 25 years.
